Additionally, he has lectured and presented before government (local, state,federal, international – Interpol, NATO, USSS, and FBI), academic (Purdue, University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University) and business organizations (ISACA, FIRST, Infragard, HTCIA, ASIS) around the globe for the past 15 years.
Burgess builds insider threat, travel security, and security awareness programs and provides commentary on national security issues.
He previously held the position of Senior Security Advisor to Cisco and served 30+ years within the CIA. Upon his retirement from the CIA, he was awarded the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal. When he retired from Cisco, they gave him a beautiful Stetson and a bottle of single-barrel Jack Daniels.
A prolific writer, he co-authored the book, “Secrets Stolen, Fortunes Lost, Preventing Intellectual Property Theft and Economic Espionage in the 21st Century.”
His writing can be found in a number of entities, to include CSO Online, Clearance Jobs and Security Boulevard, where his by-line columns covering global security, privacy, intelligence, and risk are featured.

He resides in lower slower Delaware where he moves at the appropriate speed.
